Overview

The Stok to Shang trek is another popular trekking route in the Ladakh region of India. This trek is a bit less challenging than the Stok Kangri trek, but still requires a good level of fitness and stamina.

The Stok to Shang trek usually takes around 5-6 days to complete and covers a distance of approximately 65 kilometers. The trek starts in Stok village and passes through several high altitude passes such as Stok La (4,900 meters), Matho La (4,950 meters) and Gongmaru La (5,150 meters).

The trek offers stunning views of the Himalayan landscape and passes through several remote villages, including Shang Sumdo, which is the endpoint of the trek. The trek also includes a visit to the Matho monastery, which is one of the oldest monasteries in Ladakh.

The best time to do the Stok to Shang trek is from mid-July to mid-September, which is the peak trekking season in Ladakh.
